Child Protection & Sex Education

The safety and welfare of the children in our care is of paramount importance to the staff here at Longvernal.

Parents and carers should know that school staff are required by law to report any concerns about child welfare to the Headteacher and that members of staff could be deemed to have acted improperly if Child Protection procedures were not followed.

Sex Education

This subject is taught formally to Year 6 children as part of our Science programme. Children will be taught as usual as a mixed gender grouping, but may be given the opportunity to discuss some issues in a single sex group if they wish. The school nurse will be available during some lessons to answer questions that may arise during class discussions or to answer individual queries. Part of the children's learning will be based upon a video, which will be available for parents to view if they wish.
