Family Learning
Parents are often surprised when they visit, at how much school and education has changed from how they remember it. That's why at Longvernal we have great opportunities for parents to experience first-hand how things work today and be part of their child's learning.
'Family Learning' is simply about supporting our parents and helping them become involved in what the children are doing. It helps them become more comfortable within the school, because they understand better what's going on. It's also a chance for parents to pick up new skills which they can use with their children at home - skills such as cooking and baking together, or designing, making and crafts.
In school, we often have visiting professionals who run fun workshops for our parents and children to participate in - such as wild Chemistry and Physics experiments in Mad Science, or Sports talks and fitness training in our hall and on the school field! We have also run a Practical Maths course, which parents themselves requested topics for, which they wanted to cover.
There is also Monday coffee drop-in organised, as a welcome to the school.
