Fire Station Trip

Thursday 10 November 2011

Holly Class spent the morning at Bath Fire Station with White Watch, learning about the work they do and seeing close-up all the equipment they use to fight fires and rescue people!

They started by finding out what happens when an emergency call comes through and how quickly firefighters have to respond - with Fortescue the bear taking a swift slide down the pole! The children then climbed into the cab of a fire engine to explore and ride around to the back of the station where the fireboat is kept.

Fire crews practice rescuing animals by using a life-size model of a horse, whom we met! They also use sniffer dogs that are trained to go through burned-out buildings and find chemicals that have been used to start fires.

The trip ended with children helping squirt water through the hoses, aiming them at the practice tower!

Thank you to White Watch for a fantastic and educational morning out - we really appreciate it.
