From the Head Teacher
Welcome to our Longvernal School, where a very special learning experience is provided for every child. We offer the ethos of a village school tucked away within the town of Midsomer Norton, and our location, close to the border with Somerset and farmland, allows us to extend learning to the outdoors wherever possible.
Classes here are small, with a high level of adult support, which helps form strong relationships within the school. We value working in partnership with parents, and shaping each child's time here with them. Our aim is to recognise the talents of each pupil and to have the highest expectations for their achievements whilst teaching them the necessary skills for life-long learning.
As Head Teacher I am totally committed to the continued growth of our school as a learning community. I have local links, but my career has been varied from class teaching, including work as a leading literacy teacher and a Senior Lecturer at Bath Spa University. Joining Longvernal as my second Head Teacher post has allowed me to shape the learning opportunities here. I am very much a 'hands on leader' and I know every child by name. As an Advanced Forest School Leader, I am passionate about developing the outdoor dimension of learning, and I am fortunate to have a skilled and committed staff team here at Longvernal who share the important values of the best primary education.
The school also collaborates with others to enrich our curriculum - we are currently working with six other local schools developing practice for maths, with a specific Bath City primary school for story-writing and we have a link with a primary school in Uganda.
