Acorn News Term 2

We have had such a busy term in Acorn Class! We started off talking about fireworks and how we keep ourselves safe. We explored colour and made our own fireworks pictures with lots of glitter! The Children loved watching the indoor fireworks we had and had great fun guessing what each of them might do. Following on from this, we explored the festival of Diwali using ICT to see how it is celebrated.  We then made our own clay pots.

Our topic this term has been ‘Is It Shiny?’ We have explored this through sand, arts and crafts and even mark-making on tin foil!

We have been developing our phonics skills by learning our new sounds C, K, U, B, F, E, L, H, SH, R. The children absolutely love doing speedy sounds and are always so speedy! We have even spotted some independent letter writing this term.

The children have really enjoyed mark-making outside this term and have used the water and large paint brushes. They have also particularly enjoyed den building to go on a safari.

We love Christmas in nursery and have had so much fun with all our Christmas activities. We have been developing our fine motor skills by using tweezers to place  pom poms into the Christmas tree box. We have turned our role area into a Christmas post office and made our own post box. The children love writing letters to post into it and have even written one to Father Christmas. The children have been busy making beautiful decorations and Christmas cards.

Next term our topic is ‘Traditional Tales’ - we can’t wait to see where the children lead us…

Acorn News October 2020

We’ve had another busy couple of weeks in Acorn Class, Nursery! We have been looking at language of size such as ‘big’ and ‘little’. We have looked at coloured hands and feet pictures and had a go at ordering the different sizes from biggest to smallest.  The children loved painting and explored colours and what happened when they mixed them. They had great fun painting their hands! We measured our feet and talked about ‘long’ and ‘short.’

In Forest School the children learnt a special song to help them remember how we keep safe while in the forest- ask them to sing this to you at home. They explored the mud kitchen and made lots of lovely mud pies and potions.

We have continued to learn our single sounds and have begun looking at I N P G and O.  We have been playing lots of different games to help hear these initial sounds in words- our favourite is Silly Soup.  We have been practising writing and recognising our name in chalk.

Our messy play this week has been pasta, lentils and shaving foam.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at our family and friends. We would love to see some pictures sent into Nursery.

Acorn News September 2020

We have had a great start to the school year and the nursery children (Acorn Class) have settled in well.  We are enjoying exploring the nursery environment and making new friends!

Our topic this term is ‘All About Me.’ Throughout this term we will be talking about ourselves, our families and our friends. So far we have looked at our reflection in mirrors and have talked about what we could see. We have discussed what makes us the same and what makes us different. We have drawn some lovely self-portraits. We have begun talking about parts of our body and the children have loved drawing outlines of themselves on the playground.

We have been joining in with lots of listening games and have had great fun with the musical instruments. We have begun to learn the sounds M A S D and T and have been practising writing them.

The children have loved exploring the messy play and have enjoyed pasta, playdoh and cornflour.

We have started Forest School on a Monday morning and the children are learning to become independent by putting on their own waterproofs. They have had great fun exploring and swinging on the rope swing.
