We’ve had another busy couple of weeks in Acorn Class, Nursery! We have been looking at language of size such as ‘big’ and ‘little’. We have looked at coloured hands and feet pictures and had a go at ordering the different sizes from biggest to smallest. The children loved painting and explored colours and what happened when they mixed them. They had great fun painting their hands! We measured our feet and talked about ‘long’ and ‘short.’
In Forest School the children learnt a special song to help them remember how we keep safe while in the forest- ask them to sing this to you at home. They explored the mud kitchen and made lots of lovely mud pies and potions.
We have continued to learn our single sounds and have begun looking at I N P G and O. We have been playing lots of different games to help hear these initial sounds in words- our favourite is Silly Soup. We have been practising writing and recognising our name in chalk.
Our messy play this week has been pasta, lentils and shaving foam.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at our family and friends. We would love to see some pictures sent into Nursery.
We have had a great start to the school year and the nursery children (Acorn Class) have settled in well. We are enjoying exploring the nursery environment and making new friends!
Our topic this term is ‘All About Me.’ Throughout this term we will be talking about ourselves, our families and our friends. So far we have looked at our reflection in mirrors and have talked about what we could see. We have discussed what makes us the same and what makes us different. We have drawn some lovely self-portraits. We have begun talking about parts of our body and the children have loved drawing outlines of themselves on the playground.
We have been joining in with lots of listening games and have had great fun with the musical instruments. We have begun to learn the sounds M A S D and T and have been practising writing them.
The children have loved exploring the messy play and have enjoyed pasta, playdoh and cornflour.
We have started Forest School on a Monday morning and the children are learning to become independent by putting on their own waterproofs. They have had great fun exploring and swinging on the rope swing.
