Performances and Drama Opportunities

At Longvernal, every child is given the opportunity to perform each year. We believe that the ability to perform and present are essential life skills. Our performances usually take place in the school hall. Additionally, children from Year 1 - Year 6 are encouraged to participate in Verse Speaking and Reading Aloud in the annual Mid-Somerset Festival held in Bath. We also compete in the MNSP annual competitions: ‘Speak Out!’ public speaking and ‘Poetry Slam!’

Our schedule of performances are generally as follows:

Harvest

  • whole school Harvest Festival in the Methodist Church

Christmas

  • Nursery nativity
  • Reception and Key Stage 1 nativity play

Spring

  • Year 3 and 4 concert in the school hall
  • Whole school Poetry Show in Book Week Assembly
  • Dance Umbrella at The Forum in Bath (Years 5 and 6 /Year 2 when possible)
  • Whole school Easter service in the Methodist Church

Summer

  • Year 5 and 6 production - a musical theatre show
  • Year 6 Leavers’ Service in the school hall

Theatre

In addition to opportunities to perform, children at Longvernal are also exposed to live theatre at several points in a typical year. This can be in the form of visiting companies such as Wassail performing live at school, workshops led by Natural Theatre Company or travelling to Bath to The Egg or Theatre Royal.
